About Me

Yep, that's me.

Cue high school, late 90s:
Teacher: "...and so, if you want to get a Ph.D, you may find yourself in school for many years, including most of your 20s."

Student: "By that time, I should have a Ph.D in Student!"

This exchange gained a lot of chuckles in the class, even from the teacher. It was our senior year, and we felt as if we had been in school for ages, and that we were a group of experts in what it was to be a student. The reality was that most of us would go to college, with a great number of us returning in our late 20s and 30s to change careers as the economy soured.

And that is where my story begins...

What is this blog about?
This blog is about navigating through college as a non-traditional student, which can be defined as but not limited to being a college student age 24 or over, a student who works full time, attends school at least part time, may have children, or is a returning adult student. I first attended college from 2000 to 2004, and I've returned to college to see that learning has evolved in the past 15 years! I will document my journey but also post helpful resources to that may make your college journey a success.

My Personal Rules for College Success outlines my philosophy for getting through college (so far)!

I'm going to be posting about how to get through college in your 30s, and how to manage life alongside college. I'll post about assignments, extra credit, time management, campus resources, financial aid, group projects, you name it. This blog is more or less diary-like, however, and my opinions do not necessarily reflect those of my college, my professors, my employers, or fellow students.

Who am I?
I'm a 30s-something with a background in design, social media management, and copywriting who is currently in the middle of a career change. I am currently attending Chaffey College, and am studying Child Development, Philosophy, Psychology, and Communications.

I enjoy working with kids, and hope to use my creative skills in art, design, and writing in my future Child Development adventures. I do work full time and attend school full time, and also do my best to participate in the community when I can. I'm interested in homeless, foster children, and animal charities.

At home I'm a fan of binging bad sci-fi shows and history documentaries, I enjoy hanging with my two adorable nephews, and snuggling with one of the many rescue animals we have in our house (including my house panther, Moo). I enjoy lending my artistic skills to collaborative projects like Brave New Girls, and lounging by the pool (while also doing homework #calilife).

What else will you see on this blog?
I am a feminist, and will not only be exploring feminist themes, but I will also be exploring important social themes like racism and sexism. Not only do these areas interest me greatly, but they are a big part of my major.
